The local authorities always pay a special attention to the preparation for the main winter holiday; that is why people in Novosibirsk are rarely bored during the first week of January which is traditionally the holiday time for the whole country.
The New Year Celebration on the main square of the city generally includes the following events: a disco, a firework show, round dances near the New Year Tree, competitions held by Father Frost and his granddaughter Snegurochka and trade fairs.
