The museum Taltsy is accessible by public transportation, but the most convenient and fast way to get there is to book the Taltsy tour. The museum preserves the old Pre-Russian architecture. With a guide, this not only a tour of buildings but Russian history as well.
The open-air museum Taltsy is located 20 kilometers away from Listvyanka. The exposition features wooden buildings brought from all over Siberia. Right now, 40 landmarked buildings and 8000 artifacts dated by XVII-XIX centuries are presented as part of the exhibition.
The museum looks like an ancient village with long streets, wooden houses, water mills and even a small school. It should be noted, that in the past real village “Taltsy” was located here. However, with the construction of the Ust-Ilimskaya hydroelectric power station, a part of the village came under the threat of flooding. Authorities decided to preserve the unique village and turned it into the museum.
The museum complex is divided into three sectors. One of them is devoted to traditional structures of Buryat people inhabited the Irkutsk territory to the west of the Baikal.
The largest sector displays the log structures from the Ilim area erected by Cossacks in the 17th-century. Located in a grove, the smallest sector is dedicated to the indigenous nomadic Evenk people, which is believed was the most ancient population lived the area.
Almost every months the museum holds different kinds of celebrations to mark Christmas, Trinity, Maslenitsa and other Russian and Buryat holidays.
Apart from visiting the museum, you can also have a barouche-ride, walk on stilts, swing on the Siberian swings, or slide down the hill. Additionally, you can participate in the birch bark weaving and clay doll workshop sessions.
Practicalities:
There is a cafe in the museum which serves traditional Siberian fare. Nevertheless, you can bring your food with you and have a picnic on site.
Some of the museum’s buildings are used as local craft shops with several artisan products.
The museum’s busiest time is the weekend. Though there are plenty of local tourists on weekends, the museum revives by various musical performances and active souvenir trade.

To get to Taltsy Museum:
By car: Drive along the 47th kilometer of Baikal Route. 20 kilometers short of Listvyanka you will see a sign with directions and a turn to the museum.
By bus: You can buy bus tickets https://avtovokzal-on-line.ru or at the bus station in a ticket booth. Bus or a minibus depart from Irkutsk Bus Station (Oktyabrskaya Revoluzia St, 11). The bus operates the route “Irkutsk – Listvyanka“, with a bus stop in Taltsy. The same route minibus departs every hour from the bus stop located opposite to the Bus Station, next to the tramway. The minibus departs once the it is full.
By boat: June through September the route “Irkutsk – Listvyanka” with a stop at Taltsy is serviced on Saturdays and Sundays. Travel time is about 2.5-3 hours. See the exact schedule on www.vsrp.ru
